00:00:00 Review: Bartees Strange

Bartees Strange is a compelling, shape-shifting musician back with his third album in five years, “Horror.” Despite some production work from Jack Antonoff, the hosts have generally positive feelings about the album, though they agree it is not Strange’s best work.

00:00:00 Review: Sasami

Sasami is originally a French horn player and composer who has just released her third solo album, “Blood On The Silver Screen.” The hosts are split on this album, with one calling the lyrics saccharine and the other reading more into them.

Music, Nostalgia & Memory

Hosts Jim and Greg discuss modern music fans’ lack of interest in new music with author David Rowell. The author shares several insights from his book, “The Endless Refrain: Memory, Nostalgia, and the Threat to New Music.”

Dear Listeners,

For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
