Review: Throwing Muses

Throwing Muses rose to prominence during the alternative music boom of the nineties. Lead singer Kristin Hersch has shifted focus to her solo work, but in recent years has come back to Muses. On “Moonlight Concessions” Jim and Greg hear similarities with Nirvana’s Unplugged album.

Women in Ska

Hosts Jim and Greg discuss women in the British ska scene with author Heather Augustyn. She points out that while the two tone ska scene of the late ‘70s and ‘80s was admirably anti-racist, it was not gender balanced at all. She shares five female artists who made great work in that era despite the challenges.

Dear Listeners,

For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
