Adia Victoria, Goodbye Ronnie Spector, Plus Opinions on Earl Sweatshirt and FKA twigs
Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot interview singer and songwriter Adia Victoria about her stunning 2021 album "A Southern Gothic." They also review some new music from Earl Sweatshirt and FKA twigs, plus they bid farewell to the late Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes.
Earl Sweatshirt was a member of the shock-rap group Odd Future, but like group members Tyler, The Creator and Frank Ocean, he has matured into a thoughtful artist. His new album, Sick! grapples with becoming a parent and dealing with pandemic quarantines.
CaprisongsFKA twigs
FKA twigs is sometimes called the “English Björk” for her experimental pop albums like Magdalene. Her current project, Caprisongs, is called a mixtape rather than an album. It is a more relaxed sound without a strong overarching concept, but still experimental.
Adia Victoria
Jim and Greg talk with blues artist Adia Victoria. Her 2021 album, A Southern Gothic was on both of their top albums of 2021 lists. They discuss her experience playing the tuba in school, how playing the guitar helps her feel connected to her body, working with producer T. Bone Burnett and where her musical fire comes from.
Obit: Ronnie Spector
Jim and Greg pay tribute to Ronnie Spector, the leader of The Ronettes, who died January 12th.

Dear Listeners,
For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
Please consider becoming a Sound Opinions member by giving whatever you can via Patreon or with a one-time donation through PayPal. Thanks for listening, and thanks for your support!
