While there have been no shortage of Led Zeppelin biographies over the years, Bob Spitz’s book is the most in-depth and expansive yet. This week, hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot talk with author Bob Spitz about the myths, music and misdeeds of Led Zeppelin. They also review new records from Waxahatchee and SiR.
Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot review the fourth album from SiR, “Heavy.” The artist born Sir Darryl Farris is a multi-talented R&B and soul singer-songwriter and labelmate of Kendrick Lamar who had a memorable appearance on HBO’s “Insecure” TV show. “Heavy” is his first studio album in five years and is a harrowing dose of introspection.

Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot review the highly anticipated new album from Waxahatchee, “Tigers Blood.” Following the creative breakthrough of her previous album, 2020’s “Saint Cloud,” Katie Crutchfield has further developed her Americana songwriting and arranging.
Led Zeppelin
Author Bob Spitz has written biographies of figures as diverse as Ronald Reagan, Julia Child and The Beatles. A few years ago, he turned his attention to the next best-selling act: Led Zeppelin. As Bruce Springsteen’s manager during Led Zeppelin’s heyday, he didn’t follow their career closely so he came to the topic with fresh eyes. He documents many abuses of power by the band and their inner circle along with their musical accomplishments.

Dear Listeners,
For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
Please consider becoming a Sound Opinions member by giving whatever you can via Patreon or with a one-time donation through PayPal. Thanks for listening, and thanks for your support!
