In 1982, the Los Angeles punk rock band X put out its album Under the Big Black Sun. Over 40 years later, it's still great! Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot talk with X vocalist and bassist John Doe all about the album and the band's impact. They'll also chat with him about his recent solo album and his work in television and film.
John Doe is a respected singer-songwriter, actor and vocalist-bassist of the Los Angelespunk band X. Alongside his three individualistic and distinct bandmates, Doe brought a new flavor to punk rock that still sounds great today on their 1982 album Under the Big Black Sun. The band reunited in 2004 and put out its most recent album in 2024.

For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
Please consider becoming a Sound Opinions member by giving whatever you can via Patreon or with a one-time donation through PayPal. Thanks for listening, and thanks for your support!
